01What SALYX is, and is not
SALYX introduces Hairstylists and Barbers to salons. Stylists publish their work; salons advertise employed roles, commission roles, chair rentals and project work.
SALYX is not an employer, an employment agency or a party to any arrangement you reach. Pay, hours, contracts, insurance, tax and everything else about the work itself are between the stylist and the salon. We introduce you; what you agree is yours.
02Your account
You need an account to publish a profile, post an opportunity, apply or send a message. Give us accurate information and keep it up to date. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your sign-in details to yourself.
You must be 18 or over, and entitled to work in the United Kingdom if you are applying for work through SALYX.
03What our review does and does not check
Stylist profiles and salon fronts are reviewed by us before they appear publicly. We are checking that a listing is genuine, intelligible and not obviously abusive.
Our review is not a background check. We do not confirm qualifications, insurance, right to work, or that a salon is a good place to work. Where a work history shows as verified, that means a salon confirmed it — it is their word, not ours. Satisfy yourself about anyone you are about to work with or hire.
04What you publish
Your portfolio stays yours. By publishing it on SALYX you give us permission to display, resize and thumbnail it so it works on the site, for as long as your account is open. Close your account and that permission ends along with the content.
You are telling us, when you upload something, that:
- it is your work, or you have the right to publish it;
- anyone identifiable in a photograph has agreed to appear in it; and
- it is accurate — particularly claims about experience and qualifications.
We can remove anything that breaks these rules, and tell you why.
05How to behave
Messaging on SALYX is for arranging work. Do not use it to:
- harass, abuse or threaten anyone;
- send unsolicited advertising;
- ask for money to secure a role, or offer to pay for one;
- collect people’s details to use somewhere else.
We can suspend or close an account that does. Where something looks unlawful we may pass it to the police.
06Advertising work fairly
Salons may set out the skills, experience and qualifications a role needs. They may not discriminate against anyone because of a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010 — age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
We will remove a listing that does, and may close the account behind it.
07Subscriptions and extra listings
Publishing a listing requires an active SALYX Pro subscription. SALYX Pro allows three listings to be live at once for each location it covers, and renews until you cancel. Subscribers can publish more as extra listings, each live for 30 days.
Cancel at any time and you keep what you have paid for until the period ends. We do not refund part-used periods, and an extra listing is used once it is published. None of this affects your statutory rights.
08Service providers
Salon Owners and Hairstylists enquire about a provider's service through SALYX. Each enquiry has a reference and reaches the provider with the member's permission. The provider quotes, contracts with and invoices the member directly; SALYX is not a party to that work and does not take payment for it.
By accepting enquiries from SALYX, a service provider agrees that:
- SALYX earns 10% of the value of any work you win from a SALYX enquiry, including repeat work and subscriptions, for 12 months from the enquiry.
- Mark an enquiry won, with its value, within 7 days of winning it.
- SALYX invoices you monthly for the commission on work marked won. Invoices are due within 30 days.
- SALYX may ask members whether they went ahead, and may query a won enquiry that was not reported.
09Availability, and what we are responsible for
We work to keep SALYX running but do not promise it will always be available, or that every listing is accurate — most of what is on SALYX was written by someone else.
We are responsible to you for loss we cause by breaking this agreement or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for a working arrangement going badly, for a role that turns out not to exist, or for a hire that does not work out. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
10Ending this agreement
Close your account whenever you like. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and will tell you why unless doing so would prejudice an investigation.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
